Make a wish shopping spree budget
Make-A-Wish ® Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana
“I’m grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget.” –Wish kid Jasmine
By supporting Make-A-Wish this holiday season, you can help bring joy back into the lives of children and families in our community.
When wish kid Jasmine was in high school, she suffered what she thought was a basketball injury. The diagnosis was much more serious; cancer. What followed was the most difficult year of her life. While her friends were attending prom and making plans for future jobs and college, Jasmine spent weeks in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy and losing her hair. Despite all the obstacles, she never lost her positive attitude.
“I was like, ‘Okay what do we do now?’ It was a keep it moving type of thing, there’s no time to be sad.”
- Wish kid Jasmine
Jasmine’s wish for a shopping spree was granted in August. On the day of her wish, she was picked up by limo and taken to her favorite mall which opened early just for her. After walking the red carpet, she shopped for hours at her favorite stores and was treated to a relaxing manicure and pedicure with her mom and grandma-her biggest cheerleaders.
Jasmine’s wish brought her joy and so much more-hope for her future. Today, Jasmine is in college and cancer-free. Jasmine, like 80% of wish kids, go on to beat their illness and live typical healthy lives. Once in adulthood, many wish kids tell Make-A-Wish that their wish marked a turning point in their road to treatment and recovery.
